I've only known about High Rock for a couple of years, but it's become one of my favorite spots. I'm not sure if it's because of my fascination with the Appalachian Trail (it runs right below the rock), because of an ancestor's participation in a Civil War battle on these slopes, or because of the rock's stint as an amusement park attraction.

I suspect it has to do with views like this.
